Felony charges are serious and can have long-lasting effects on your personal life.

What are Considered Felonies?

This is a legal term that helps judges know how to sentence defendants. There are two types of charges for criminal cases. They are either misdemeanors, which are less serious crimes, or felonies, which tend to carry harsher penalties.

You can read all about this in New Hampshire’s criminal code, under RSA 625:9.

In New Hampshire, a felony is considered a serious crime. If you have been arrested and charged with a felony, you will want to have an attorney who is well-versed in representing clients facing these kinds of charges.

Each type of crime is classified into either a Class A felony or a Class B felony.

Here are the differences.

A Class A felony is the most serious of the criminal charges. This typically happens when there is a murder, kidnapping, manslaughter, assault that causes bodily injury, sex or drug related crimes or thefts involving property worth more than $1,000.

If you are convicted of a Class A felony you could be facing between 7 ½ to 15 years in prison. Of course this depends on the case. A murder conviction, for example, could land you in prison for life. And, in addition to prison time, this also carries fines of up to $4,000 and probation.

If you are convicted on a Class B Felony, you could face jail time of between 3 and 7 ½ years. And, in addition, a judge can fine you up to $4,000 and you could serve up to 5 years of probation.

The kinds of cases that often result in Class B felonies include possession of illegal substances, a 4th DWI, computer fraud and thefts involving property worth more than $500 but less than $1,000.

So these are highly serious and you will need the assistance of a well-qualified criminal defense attorney if you are arrested and charged with a felony.

And, keep in mind, if you are convicted on felony charges, this can affect your life and livelihood for years to come. Even if you’re simply given probation, this will be on your criminal records and all future potential employers can see this. In addition, school admissions offices can also see your record and it could adversely affect your chances of getting into a good college or getting student loans. Also, leasing agencies check criminal records before allowing you to rent an apartment.

So this is why you will need to hire Michael Anzalone.
